A Data Supported Community Center

As the Livwell Community Center continues to be developed, I want you to know that we are making data based decisions in our planning process. We want to build a space that meets the needs of our community and is financial sustainable (built to appropriate scope and size). Some things we know about Livingston County, NY and available community recreation resources:

  • A 2018 Livingston County Community Center feasibility study by Johnson Consulting (JC) supported the need for a multi-generational recreation center with sports & recreation, community space, and senior center space identified as the top needs.

  • Out of 1,810 residents that responded to the JC survey, 77% of residents indicated they would pay to use the facility.

  • A 2017 State of Play Greater report for Rochester & the Finger Lakes report found that 12% of Greater Rochester and Finger Lakes region youth are getting the CDC recommended (1) hour of daily physical activity.

  • Livingston County was identified as one of the most underserved counites in the region for sports facilities.

  • According to a 2019 Headwaters Economics study, people are more like to move to counties that support recreation. This is particularly true for rural counties where between 2010 - 2016 non-recreation counties lost 20 people per 1,000 residents while the average recreation supported county gained just over 1 person per 1,000 resident.

Hopefully this data begins to tell our community’s story about why the Livwell Community Center is needed and is supported. Lots of project updates coming this quarter including our Annual Report which you can sign-up to receive through our Project Progress page.

Next blog post anticipated for Thursday, January 19th at 10am.
