The Why

When I first took over the lead role to develop our recreation and wellness center this past July, I knew I was taking on my most challenging professional assignment yet. I also believed strongly that I was in the right place in my career to take on the work and responsibility that came with turning this well discussed idea into a reality. So why is the development of the Livwell Community, Wellness, & Fitness Center important to our community? For me, it represents opportunity and hope. The opportunity to enjoy an indoor space that prioritizes play, fun, wellness, community, and families within our county. A space that is welcoming, furthers friendships, and offers something for everyone.

There is lots of information out there on the positive benefits of recreation and wellness. The data tells us that a community recreation and wellness center will improve quality of life, create sense of belonging, and play an important role in attracting and retaining residents to Livingston County, NY.

Having been fortunate enough to enjoy a career where I’ve witnessed the positive impact of sport and recreation, I can tell you first hand that it goes beyond that. Beyond physical health - activity, play, and sport absorb stress, improve self confidence, create resilience.

As a parent, I know how difficult it can be to provide opportunities for our children to detach from screen time and get active (especially in the winter). I look forward to keeping you updated on our recreation center’s development.
