Our Story

A needs assessment and feasibility study supported by Livingston County, NY was completed in 2018, showing overwhelming community need and support for the development of a multi-generational community wellness center offering sports & recreation, community space, and senior programming.

In conjunction with the 2018 study, Livingston County, NY organizes a steering committee to help guide project decisions and progress.  The community center project stalls post needs assessment due to a variety of factors including COVID-19 and a lack of commitment from a project partner to assist in the development and management of the proposed facility in conjunction with Livingston County, NY municipal leadership.

No longer willing to stand on the sidelines and wait, lifelong Livingston County, NY resident, entrepreneur, and wellness advocate, Peter Bruckel recognizes a call to action to support the build of a community, wellness, and fitness center.  Peter graciously offers property in Avon, NY for the community center build and begins the search to hire a full-time executive director to lead project development.

In 2021, Don F. Mills III moves his family back home to Livingston County, NY after spending the early part of his career working in education, recreation, and wellness at the University of South Carolina.  After meeting with Peter Bruckel and several key stakeholders, Don is moved by the project’s vision and potential for community impact.  Don comes on board as the organization’s Executive Director founding the Livwell Community, Wellness, and Fitness Center organization in August 2022.
